Revolutions and Enlightenment in England and America have succesfully changed the way the people and the Government interact. Each of these 'Revolutions' led to future changes in government, but each revolution had its own unique impact.
1. Identify one major change that occured from each 'Revolution': English, American, and Enlightenment. (Questions that might help- What are the lasting impacts from these revolutions? How were the finished governments different from the starting governments? What new idea about government came out of each of these Revolutions?)

Well the English Civil war showed how the people choose their leader. Got rid of the idea of Divine Right of Kings. The American revolution showed how with enough people a smaller less powerful group can drastically make a difference. Showed that other countries going through the problems they had could take over of they had the support. The enlightenment revolution showed more of the idea of democracy and how people have their own rights and that they decide how things will work out and run, not some king nobody chose or wanted.

Each Revolution left the people more aware of their power. After the Enlightenment, the people turned to science and fact for explanations rather than religion. The end of the English Revolution led to the people realizing they had the power over who was king and when they left, they just had to use it. America's Revolution resulted in a government that was run by the people with a leader chosen by the people only in that position for a select amount of years. All these Revolutions ended with a more enlightened and empowered people.

In the English revolution the people and the way they reacted with the government changed because after the revolution parliament took action and won which led to parliament having the power and the king basically had no say what so ever and parliament was the government. In the American revolution it all changed because the army was for the people and the government needed an army so the government realized that they had to accept and stay on good terms with the people to keep a strong central force army. And with the enlightenment it all changed because the government realized they need to stay on good terms with the people that way they make money from taxes and stay in overall power from the people. Also, that way with everyone agreeing with each other and staying in “check” it keeps a strong central union along with the people and government.

The revolutions in England and America alike have both had turns for better and for worse. Within the English revolution, they implemented the constitutional monarchy which helped restore the king’s power and removed the puritans’ restrictions. With this, expansion occurred and England created colonies upon American land. This impacted sales, trade, and even expanded the colonies’ wealth. Aside from England, America helped England regain control over parts of North America, but America decided that Britain’s heavy taxes were unfair so America implemented the Sugar Act of 1764 which placed a tax on all british goods. With these revolutions however, enlightenment came to power and the people within both societies came to the realization that wealth is more important than getting along with either side. With this new, conceded viewpoint, this created conflict and war.

The English revolution had a main impact on society with it’s removal of the ideology of the divine right of kings. Those ideas were removed when the people, not the christian god, chose the king to rule them. The American revolution managed to incite revolution in the hearts of other nations like france, leading to the removal of the French king and most nobles. The enlightenment brought philosophers that questioned the viability of absolute power, and whether it was necessary for leaders to have.

One major change that was a result of these revolutions was the idea that the people now chose their leader, not God. King Charles refused to work with Parliament, who represents the people, so they went to war (the English Civil War) with him eventually won and had him beheaded. Although, how government was run under Cromwell’s Commonwealth wasn’t very liked by the people and England became more like a dictatorship. So, they ended up bringing back the position of King, but this now meant no King could claim their authority from the “divine right of Kings” because now God wasn’t the one who made them the leader. The enlightenment gave rise to the idea that the people should work with the King and agree to be led by him, and he would have to run the country how the people want, which is the Social Contract. From these revolts against the ruler, the American colonies were inspired to do the same against Britain. America was getting unfairly taxed and had no say in parliament, so they decided to fight back, which became known as the American revolution. America gave light to a new form of government that was influenced by some ideas of the Enlightenment. They created checks and balances with three branches; legislative, executive, and judicial and gave each branch a certain duty which balanced each other out, so they wouldn’t have the problem of absolute rulers and unfair representation. This form of government is still used in America today and it might never have been like this if these three wars/events hadn’t happened.

A result of the English revolution or the English Civil War was that the people realized that they had the power to pick their own leader and they were the reason the leader was ever in power. This concept is also known as the social contract. The American Revolution resulted in the re-conception of a democratic government. Beforehand, every country had a figurehead or absolute ruler, but the American Revolution created the first government that was centered around the people with checks and balances and different branches. Finally, the Enlightenment allowed for separation of church and state, and it allowed the people to criticize the monarch without it being seen as criticizing God because the two were no longer seen as one and the same. The Enlightenment included the growth of reason and logic, which caused people to understand and philosophize how God and the monarch are different.

In the English revolution people started to realize that they have the power to choose who rules them and that the people should have the power not the king. In England there are now new rules like how the king must meet with Parliament every so often and that the king cannot have absolute power. The American Revolution was kinda the same as English revolution in a sense that the people wanted the power to be able to govern themselves. The Americans being unnecessarily taxed by England was their last straw for them. This caused them to break away from England and create their own self governed government without a Ruler and a new set of fair laws to the people.

The king's power went down, and the people gained most of it. The people realized that they had the power to overthrow the king. They ultimately had more power than the king due to the fact that the king did not have a say against the Parliament. Parliament made laws such as the Social Contract. If the ruler doesn’t conform to what people want, the people have the right to remove him from power. They also made the English Bill of Rights, stating that the ruler has to follow the laws. The one in power could also not change laws, only parliament could. Although Parliament is run by nobility and whatnot, people have the power to vote for who they want in Parliament. This leaves the people with the majority of the power.

One major change that has occurred in these revolutions is the way the government worked. A lot of the governments stopped doing absolutism and started giving some of the power to the people. The enlightenment led to a big change in religion. People had started questioning the church and its teaching thus leading to a power shift in the church. The finished governments are much different from the starting governments because America shifted from having confederation to a much better form of government, democracy. A new idea of government that came out is that it is better to equally distribute power through each branch of government.

One lasting impact from the English Revolution was that the Divine Right of Kings idea was no longer existing. The people and parliament made it clear to the king or person in power that they put them where they are, not God. In the America Revolution, the puritans who left for America were being taxed by England, so they revolted against the king. Now, these Americans are free from taxation and any strings from the English government. The Enlightenment was the belief that logic and reason could explain nature. The people started to not use religion as a crutch for all the answers to their questions and actually started to question the churches teachings and morals. They started figuring things out on their own and finding out why things are the way they are instead of saying they’re like that because of God. Some philosophers and new scientists did try to use both religion and logic and reason to explain the world around them.

The people realized that the people chose the king and that god does not choose the king. With the American revolution the got what they needed which was a government that they could choose the people in Congress and the president. I is almost the same thing for when the English revolution happened. They needed a better king that didn't do shady stuff and after Cromwell and his thing England got a better parliament and they collaborated with each other. The enlightenment help with political views and other ideas to help with their democracy.

From the English Revolution a major change between the government and people, are that it it the people who chose the king, not god, so that as it is, the people also have the right to get rid of the king if they do not pike what he’s doing or if he’s not following the rules that are laid out for him that he has to follow. The American revolution established that the colonies will be their own entity, as they separated from Britain, fought a “war” with them, then won and declared independence. From Enlightenment, brought forth Old ideas and brought them back, but better. They became more educated and they also made the encyclopedia. Enlightenment brought forth a better understanding of the current situation and the people then had more and better political ideas that helped strengthen the people’s government. The finished government of the American Revolution resulted in them creating a government that revolves around a series of rules called the amendments and the bill of rights. They did not have any single person in charge, as instead they had three sept retreated parts of the government that kept the head of the government in check.

One major change relating to the English Revolution was the separation between church and government. Due to the fact that this revolution showed the people they chose their leader and that God did not, there was a separation between the two powers. You could now criticize the king without the fear of going to hell or being punished by God. One major change relating to the American revolution was that people in America now had a say in their laws and had many rights that previously, under the British government, they did not have. Their new federal government had a system that prevented corruption as much as possible giving the states and central government certain powers that could check and balance each other. This created a very fair government which was very unusual at the time. One major change relating to the enlightenment revolution was in the idea that there was a social contract between the people and their leader meaning that the people chose their leader and he had to lead the way they wanted. In this idea of a social contract it became clear to the people that they had agreed to be led in order to prevent chaos which meant they should have the right to choose who they were led by and how.

In each on of the revolutions their were many changes. The one that main spread through all of them was that the people chose who their leader was, it was not hereditary. This also means they could overthrow the leader at any time, which gave the people the power. During the English Revolution one of the major changes that occurred was that parliament received more influence. During the Enlightenment the major change that occurred was the separation between state and church. This was extremely relevant because the people stopped relying on the church for everything and started exploring more and spreading ideas. During the American Revolution, it allowed America to be noticed as a country and allowed the people more freedoms and the revolution allowed America to have a set government put in place.

In the English Revolution, the military and economy was greatly impacted and developed because Cromwell established the army. In the American Revolution, independence was won because of the war with the England and Britain with the help of France. After the American war, America was finally established or named. The the Enlightenment, people discovered that they choose their own leader, not god. They could criticize the leader without criticizing god. This also helped the people come to the realization that they could overthrow the king, since there is one king and a ton of people.

The longest lasting effect the English revolution had on the interaction between the people and government was the elimination of the Divine Right of Kings. After the English revolution, there was the Commonwealth, then they created a constitutional monarchy. The people decide to put Charles II back onto the throne, meaning god didn’t choose who the king was. Now, the king is obligated to work with parliament, as the king still has to do to this day. The Enlightenment was the belief that logic and reason could give people answers. This made people begin to learn more about nature, and they stopped crediting god with things they didn’t understand. This revolution has a particularly large lasting impact because to this day kids around the globe attend school in order to solve problems, and almost everyone in the world is taught to use logic and reason to solve problems. The most significant change which resulted from the American Revolution is the idea of a complete democracy. America pioneered the idea of a true democracy, and was the first nation to give basically all the power to the people. To this day, the government set up after this revolution works, and is still governing the U.S. as we speak.
